Welcome To WAROA

Western Australian Racehorse Owners' Association

Our sole mission is to provide racehorse owners a direct voice to Government, Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA), Racing Clubs and Breeders to advance the interest of owners.

We are committed to the following key objectives.

    • To have racehorse owners recognised by Government and RWWA as the principal stakeholders in the Western Australian racing industry.
    • To lobby for improved prize money for horses racing at every level in Western Australia.
    • To lobby for better on-course facilities and benefits for racehorse owners at all Western Australian race clubs.
  • To support the other key stakeholders in the Western Australian racing industry to prosper for the good of the industry; namely, racing clubs, breeders, trainers, jockeys, and other service providers that derive the majority of their income from the racing industry.

Date Change For Iconic Kalgoorlie Cup Carnival

Racing & Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) has consulted extensively over the last several months with the Kalgoorlie‐Boulder Racing Club (KBRC) on the date of the historic Kalgoorlie Cup meeting going forward.

Train kick-starts new team at Gold Front

Onadowntowntrain gave Brent Albuino a kick-start in the training ranks with a front-running victory at Ascot on Saturday.

Vitalism Looking To Go One Better In Sires

Tiarnna Robertson is hoping a step-up in journey will help offset Vitalism’s wide draw in the Group 3 Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Ascot on Saturday.

Robertson was dealt a blow when Vitalism drew barrier 12 in the $200,000 feature, but took some solace with her major rival faring little better.

A WATC Derby Winner To Revere

Leading into the 2014 running of the WATC Derby it's appropriate to reflect on the recent history of the event and what could be a worrying sign for Saturday's winner given current trends.

Of the last six WATC Derby winners, only one (to this point) has gone on to win another race, which is fascinating given it is the state's richest three year old event. Mystic Prince '13, Dreamaway '12, Chartreux '10, Markus Maximus '09 and Grand Journey '08, all failed to win again following their Derby victories. Rohan in 2012 is the only exception, but although it's form since has been consistently excellent, it has only managed one win and at the following start in the WAROA Belmont Guineas.

Chris Blackwell’s Weekend Wrap – Ascot 5th April 2014

It took until the feature race on Amelia Park – York Stakes day for punters to find their cheer, as we were met with another card full of surprises. With only two favourites saluting, finding a winner proved near impossible as a bevy of upsets plastered the winner’s lists. Promising apprentice Chantelle O’Grady continued her excellent form in the saddle with a riding double aboard August Knight for Adam Durrant in the opener, before leading all the way with Our Memory Girl for Brett Pope in the third. Despite the trainers sharing the spoils, a deserved mention must go to Steve Wolfe who extracted the ultimate revenge when Mr Utopia cruised to victory in the York Stakes – there wasn’t going to be any upheld protests spoiling the party this week.

Chris Blackwell’s Weekend Wrap - Ascot 22nd March 2014

It was tough going for favourite punters again at Ascot today, and it took an upheld protest and a nail-biting finish in the final race to add to their dwindling bank balance. But it was another fantastic day for the Aquanita stable, with Simon Miller preparing a double when Oz Racing’s Bombora ($7.50) disposed of rivals in the sixth, before High Limit ($2.80 fav) scored a narrow victory in the last.
