How did you become involved with WAROA: Having been interested in racing from a young age as my uncle Bob Marlow was a jockey and later a successful trainer with his wife Nola. I have a desire to increase racehorse ownership and to advocate on all issues that will improve the owner experience.
Best horse ownership experience: Every win is a great achievement to all involved and is very exciting. We have been very fortunate to have had some good horses such as Neurological, and Marocchino.
Leith grew up in Cloverdale and was indirectly involved with racing at an early age with association of many sons and daughters of WA trainers and jockeys. He went to school with Ann Jones and she is responsible for his nomination on to the Committee. Leith is well known in WA Racing for his role as Sponsorship & Events Mgr at the Swan Brewery for nearly 40 yrs ..he has presented Swan sponsored trophies to every race track in WA. Leith has also been involved in the Carbine Club of WA as Secretary, President and Committee for 12yrs. He has 3 horses in training at the moment thanks to Garry Dickie who introduced him to ownership 5yrs ago with Trainers Trevor Andrews & Fred Kersley. He is keen to bring his wealth of Committee experience and racing contacts in his role as the new WAROA Vice President!
Current role\profession: General Manager | Executive Officer | Project Manager | Chairman.
How did you become involved with WAROA: I was attending the Perth Racing New Members function at Ascot when I was talking to Harvey Crossman, who at that stage was also on the committee of Perth Racing. He knew my families background of racing and thought that I would be a good young edition to the committee and asked if I would be interested in attending a meeting and potentially joining the association.
Best horse ownership experience: Achernar Star. He was a little champion. He was the favourite at the farm also. He was very unlucky in his early career running in our main races. He ended up winning just over a million in prize money for the owners, so that is quite impressive.
Current role\profession: Director of Kerr Group (Commercial & Industrial Property Advisory).
How did you become involved with WAROA: Harvey Crossman invited me to attend a committee meeting in 2015 and the enthusiasm of the whole committee for all aspects of horse racing ownership was awesome. I joined the committee and later became the Treasurer of the Association in 2017.
Best horse ownership experience: Managing and part owning the beautiful old grey, Ask Me Nicely with a great group of friends and family.
Current role\profession: Regional Manager WA/SA Zurich Investments.
How did you become involved with WAROA: Originally via Harvey Crossman.
Best horse ownership experience: Real Cheeky ownership.
Current role/profession: Retired – (My last employment was with ANZ Bank in the Money Market Department many years ago).
How did you become involved with WAROA: I was asked to nominate by former committee member Barry Rowe.
Best horse ownership experience: Currently I have shares in 8 racehorses, mostly 2 year olds, with 5 different trainers. My best TWO, which have now retired were DEBELLATIO, who won the 2017 WA Sires Produce Stakes in his 4 wins. He retired at 4 years and is currently enjoying being in a paddock at Bullsbrook. My other horse was LIKE A BUTTERFLY who won the 2018 Ascot 1000 Guineas. She also retired at 4 years and was sold as a broodmare to Yarraman Park Stud.
My father, Hugh Jamieson, was a very good horse trainer in the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s at Ascot so I grew up around horse stables all my life. He had great success racing horses in Perth and the Eastern States with the likes of Rack & Ruin, Gilt Patten, Nintoku, Tudor Mak, Catch A Count and many others. In those days, Belmont/Ascot was semi-rural so it was wonderful growing up with the horses in the ‘back yard’. My love & well being of horses has stemmed from there.
Current role\profession: Customer Service Supervisor.
How did you become involved with WAROA: Former President Harvey Crossman asked me to join the committee after owning horses with him in the Paul Jordan stable.
Best horse ownership experience: Fire & Rain, from 12 starts winning 5 times and 4 of them been in the city on Saturday, chasing that group 1 horse.
Current role\profession: Project Lead Electrical.
How did you become involved with WAROA: Became involved through Brenton and Brad when they knew I had a passion regarding this industry.
Best horse ownership experience: First Saturday winner at Ascot back in 2017 when I first got involved in horse ownership.
Current role\profession: Exercise Physiologist / Director at Performex Pty Ltd.
How did you become involved with WAROA: A short discussion with former President Harvey Crossman after the 2014 WAROA Belmont Guineas was enough for me to see purpose and value in the association and a desire to be involved whenever I could.
Best horse ownership experience: Tick Tick Bloom. A great racing experience with a group of mates with a mare that we owned and bred. She was a tough mare and took the owners on an incredible ride.
Brian is currently the Stud Manager of Rapid Equine Breeding at Balmoral Park. He is skilled in all things breeding, breaking-in and racing and has a keen interest in education and opportunities for the thoroughbred industry workforce.
Current role\profession: Finance Broker
How did you become involved with WAROA: Through existing committee members
Best horse ownership experience: Owning Champion Fillies and WA Guineas winning horse Watch Me Dance. She was a real super star and my very first dabble in ownership.
