Oakland Park Stud’s tough mare Starlight Lady notches up her first middle distance win at Belmont on Saturday. The mare now takes her record to 22 starts for 4 wins and 5 thirds with stakes money of $92,525.

The Karen Kersley trained mare by American champion racehorse Fantastic Light out of the American mare Dancing Starlight by Atticus has developed this campaign into a horse with a promising staying future.

Leading up to Saturday’s win she has run a number of sound placings – a third to Variety Fair over 1600 metres beaten 0.5 of a length, a third to November Red over 1700 metres beaten 0.25 of a length and a third to the form galloper Fair Hunter over 2000 metres beaten 0.30 of a length.

It was an interesting finish to Saturday’s race given Oakland Park’s long-standing relationship with the Kersley family. Oakland Park’s Starlight Lady won the race for Karen Kersley. The second horse Better Than Darcy is trained by her sister Kellie and the girl’s Father Fred trains the fourth-place  Ask Me Nicely.
