Champion sprinter Barakey will launch his comeback to racing in the Listed Goodwood Sprint (1300m) at Belmont Park in August.
The Group 1 hero hasn’t been seen since he faded to finish ninth behind Buffering in last year’s Winterbottom Stakes (1200m).
A planned trip to Melbourne in the spring and a transfer to Sydney trainer Chris Waller were thwarted because of a foot abscess.
Trainer Jim Taylor said Barakey, who has won 12 of 14 starts and earned $735,500 in prizemoney, had benefitted from an extended break.
“He has been in work for about four weeks and feels really good,” said a delighted Taylor.
“He is probably the soundest that he has been for a fair while.
“It might have been a blessing in disguise having such a break and not travelling away because he seems very sound.
“The Goodwood Sprint at weight-for-age is a suitable race for him.
“It will be 1300m first up but he would have been in work for four months and I’ll have him ready.
“That will probably be his only run and if he comes through that he will get ready to run in races around the carnival.”
