To celebrate National Volunteer Week, we want to recognise the dedication of our volunteers in the WA racing industry.
Kevin Scott has dedicated much of his time to country racing in Western Australia over many years.
After travelling to Western Australia from Victoria, Kevin got into the industry after meeting his now-wife, Fiona.
In 1988, Kevin and Fiona bought a property in Esperance and Kevin immediately became a member of the Esperance Bay Turf Club committee. Racing has been a large part of the Esperance community for more than 100 years, with race days a highlight on the community calendar.
Since joining the committee, Kevin has played an active role in the local racing community and is now Senior Vice President of the club.
“I have always been a big advocate for country racing, we want to keep the horses in the country. I am lucky enough to have an excellent working committee which are a great support. Every person gives all that they can,” Kevin said.
It is this passion that flows over to his second voluntary role as President of the Country Racing Association of Western Australia, where he leads the committee that represents 25 country race clubs across the State.
“I am proud of this achievement, it’s great to know I can be a voice for country racing.”
With such a unique geographic location, country racing is engrained in the State’s history. Kevin continues to support country racing through both his volunteer roles.
Here at Racing and Wagering Western Australia, we want to say thank you to all our volunteers who play a vital role in the success of the WA racing industry.
