Racing & Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) has consulted extensively over the last several months with the Kalgoorlie‐Boulder Racing Club (KBRC) on the date of the historic Kalgoorlie Cup meeting going forward.

The KBRC has resolved that the preferred date to conduct the Kalgoorlie Cup meeting from 2015 onwards is the Sunday of the Queen’s Birthday long weekend in September each year. The Hannans Handicap meeting will move to the Thursday immediately before the Kalgoorlie Cup with the Boulder Cup on the earlier Sunday of that week.

The dates of ‘The Round’ in 2015 will be as follows:

  • Sunday, 20 September 2015 Boulder Cup
  • Thursday, 24 September 2015 Hannans Handicap
  • Sunday, 27 September 2015 Kalgoorlie Cup

“The KBRC Board has worked very hard to come to this decision in consultation with RWWA. We realise that it is a big move, acknowledge there are pros and cons to it all, but also find it an exciting move as we continue to evolve as a Race Club and enhance our product in an ever challenging environment” said KBRC Chairman Andrew Inglis.

RWWA Chief Executive Officer Richard Burt said “RWWA has worked with the Board of the KBRC to achieve what we believe to be the best long term outcome for both the Race Club and local community. RWWA will provide further support through an extensive marketing campaign to ensure the iconic Kalgoorlie Race Round becomes a destination for both keen racegoers and tourists alike on the September long weekend each year”.

The change in format detailed above does not impact the 2014 Round with the Boulder Cup to be run on Sunday, 14 September; Hannans Handicap on Wednesday, 17 September; and culminate with the running of the XXXX Gold‐Kalgoorlie Cup on Saturday, 20 September.

A metropolitan meeting at Belmont Park will run concurrently with the Kalgoorlie Cup in 2014, however, the KBRC will again conduct a standalone fixture on the new Sunday date from 2015 onwards.
