• Kalgoorlie-Boulder Race Club; Bunbury and Broome clubs receive marketing funding
  • Funding for three years to drive event expansion

Racing and Gaming Minister Terry Waldron has welcomed State Government Royalties for Regions funding for country cups through Eventscorp’s Regional Events Program.

The funding will see the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Race Club and the Bunbury and Broome turf clubs receive funding over the next three years to expand their marketing and entertainment offering for patrons on and off the track.

Mr Waldron said all WA country race clubs would benefit with the funding to support the development of a new country racing brand; a new website to promote all thoroughbred country racing fixtures and the appointment of a dedicated project manager at Racing and Wagering Western Australia.

“By building an even greater event around these already historic race meetings, the clubs will have a greater ability to attract visitors from near and far, and see the whole community benefit,” he said.

“Race meetings give regional communities a reason to celebrate and provide an opportunity for towns to showcase their unique regional experience to the rest of the State and nation.

“It’s great to see the State Government support these important community events, and I congratulate Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls and Tourism Minister Kim Hames for their championing of this regional racing initiative.”

With the support continuing for three years, starting with the Kalgoorlie Cup this September, and the Bunbury and Broome Cup carnivals next year, these regional centres have the opportunity to attract sponsorship and support to see these events continue to grow in stature.
