Jockey Peter Knuckey has a chance of closing the gap on William Pike by winning on Metallica in the second race.

Knuckey needs to win 14 races this month to clinch the title of the absent Pike who is riding in Hong Kong.

Pike who left Perth in the last week of April with 67 wins to his credit would be unlucky to lose given that he has set the bar so high and the only one who can possibly straddle it is Knuckey.

Metallica caught the eye with a close first-up fourth from a spell behind My Rouge, on June 20. The mare finished on from tenth on the home turn on that occasion and will be seeking a second career win in her tenth start.

Speedy galloper Pure Heaven may provide the main danger and the grey Verscene will find this field more to her liking.

In the third race, Jordan Mallyon who is making a great success in his riding career since coming to Perth, (including his first winning treble last Saturday) is aptly mounted on Great Success, a recent Pinjarra winner two starts ago.

From the Grant Williams–Bob Peters stable the gelding will get respect as does the apprentice rider.
