Despite the many challenges confronting the WA racing industry, it is still prize-money that remains the number one issue for most owners following the results of our recent WAROA members’ survey.
Maintaining or increasing current levels of stake-money is seen by most of our poll statistics, as the most important pillar to WA racing remaining relevant on a national level and also being able to retain and potentially attract new owners to the industry.
WAROA representation on the Thoroughbred Racing Consultative Group (TRCG), as well as the peak national body for race horse owners Australian Thoroughbred Race Horse Owners’ Council (ATROC) plus the continuation of the WAROA Owner’s Bonus Payment race days were also high on the list of members’ feedback.
Members also strongly recommend that our magazine ‘Winner’s Circle’ continue in its current printed format whilst also still being able to be viewed on our website.
Other significant issues that emerged from the survey results were for;
• Improvement on the track race day experience for owners
• A review of the current handicapping system for metropolitan racing
• Enhanced trainer communication with owners
• Retaining both metropolitan racecourses
– Ascot & Belmont Park
• Improving racetrack facilities for all owners at metropolitan and provincial venues
We would like to express our thanks to all of those members who took the time to respond to our survey questionnaire and also for providing valuable additional feedback.
