An inspection of the Geraldton race track surface was today undertaken by RWWA Curator Assistance Programme Manager Geoff Murphy and Geraldton Turf Club Officials.

It was evident at this inspection that there are several areas of the track which have been damaged by excess application of urea and it is unlikely the track will be suitable to host the Club’s scheduled opening meeting of the season. Accordingly, the Geraldton meeting scheduled for Sunday, 14 October has been cancelled.

Remedial work on the problem areas of the track will now be undertaken under the supervision of Mr Murphy. It is expected that the next meeting on Thursday, 25 October will be able to proceed as scheduled, however, a further track inspection will take place prior to the closing of nominations for this meeting.

RWWA’s Manager Thoroughbred Racing will liaise with the Club to programme a replacement meeting later in the season.

The Geraldton Turf Club apologises for any inconvenience the delayed start to the racing season causes to stakeholders.
