The closest thing to local racing royally in the modern era – The Parnham’s – made their presence felt at Belmont today, adding a training and riding double to the family mantel piece.

The winning father/son combination commenced in the Westspeed Nursery HCP 1400m, when star apprentice Chris Parnham piloted the Neville Parnham trained Vital Importance ($6.00) to a 1 ¼ victory from near last on the turn. Older brother Brad saddled up dad’s 3yo Snitzel gelding Dominating ($4.00) in the Byron Searle Birthday Sprint 1000m and didn’t let the family down, producing a devastating final assault to salute by 1 ½ lengths. Chris secured his own double in the penultimate Joe Stratton Life Begins @ 49 Sprint 1000m, getting the most out of the returning Shining Knight ($2.30) to run away with a gallant 1 ½ length victory.

In other races, Red Hot Sax ($2.10) led all the way in the HCP 1400m to outlast the brave My Bonny Lad ($3.80) by a short neck. Royal Inferno ($7.00) set the track alight in the Crown Perth Sprint 1200m finding a narrow nose margin from the photo finish, while The Underworld ($7.00) came from last to bury rivals by 1 ¼ lengths in the LD Total HCP 1600m.

Jockey Jarrad Noske also emulated a riding double when successful aboard Daneclicked ($2.80 fav) in the Italian Day At Belmont Park Next Saturday HCP 2000m, and produced the “winning ride of the day” with mount Raising Dubai ($7.00) in the HCP 2200m when storming clear from second on the turn for a 4 ¼ length landslide.

The Hoops / Trainers

Appreciate hoop Chris Parnham and Jarrad Noske both returned riding doubles, while Neville Parnham did the best of the trainers with a double.

The Tipsters

With Don and Dec both spelling, it was left to Blackie to hold the fort. Blackie found Daneclicked in the third and the trifecta in the second, but otherwise had a frustrating day with his fancied runners Alyssa and Bomber Bel unable to find a run in their respective races, and what the hell happened with Return To Rio and World Domination??? (I surrender…)

On the east coast, Shane was luckless on the Heavy 9 Eagle Farm track (he wasn’t alone), but did find Moriarty ($3.90 fav) at Rosehill, and Elite Elle ($2.80 fav) at Caulfield.

The Black Book

I tossed up between Alyssa and Bomber Bel for my best bet this week, and both were dead unlucky – unable to find clear passage in the straight. Both should win soon with the right run.
