It was a perfect start to WA racing for Ex Sydney-sider So Symbolic, following a resounding victory in the tabtouch.mobi HCP 1200m.
Trained by Aquanita’s Simon Miller for the Ultimate Fire Racing Syndicate , the 6yo Dehere gelding had shown substantial promise earlier in its career – having landed a cheque in all but one of its seven Eastern States starts. With an impressive trial under its belt, expectations were high, despite a late drift in the market prior to the jump.
Jockey Daniel Ganderton had no hesitation shooting So Symbolic ($2.80 – $3.20 fav) forward upon barrier rise, but they would not have it all their own way upfront. Cherie Amour ($10.00) sat outside the favourite, while Lee Rani ($6.00) poured on the pressure in third. Lee Rani’s jockey Jerry Noske took up the running passing the 400m mark as the pace slackened, but the challenge was to be short lived.
Swinging the turn, So Symbolic reclaimed the lead with a blistering turn of foot and stormed to the line for a clinical 1 ¾ length victory.
Lee Rani stuck on for second, while Aquanita stablemate Ron’s Call ($4.40) provided the run of the race – flying home from seventh to capture third.
It was the first success over 1200m for So Symbolic, with most of its past consistent performances produced between 1400 – 1600m. One can safely assume a bright local future for the gelding as it heads towards its preferred distance.
